FAQs

1What is MOCOG Model Simulation?
They are educational activities where participants (often referred to as delegates) take on roles as diplomats and/or heads of states and represent the various multilateral and international organizations such as Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), amongst others, to study diplomacy and international relations.
2Why MOCOG Model Simulation?
Model Simulations teaches participants skills like research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop a deeper understanding of current world issues. Delegates conduct research from which they formulate position papers and create policy proposals that they will debate with other delegates in their committee. At the end of a conference, delegates will vote on written policies (called draft resolutions), with the goal of passing them with a majority vote. The best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are recognized with awards.
3How do I become a part of this?
Any high school pupil under the age of 19 and any university student over 18 years old is eligible to register under the advertised group being hosted.
4How do I register?
Registration will only be considered complete once the non-refundable school registration fee has been paid. Delegations may complete registration through this website or by their school’s designated advisor on or before the dates advertised for such. Delegations/Delegates that register before the early decision deadline will be eligible for their country and committee preferences, subject to availability. Pending availability, late registration will be open. Delegates who undergo late registration will incur 15% late registration fees. All applications will be considered for acceptance on a rolling basis and registration will be closed once all slots are filled.
5Do I need to have prior experience?
No, you do NOT need prior Model UN/AU experience to successfully participate in any of our events. We will explain important guidelines and information to ensure all delegates are well-equipped for the conference.
6Will I be selected to participate?
There are 1000 spots available and no cap on the number of delegates within a specific delegation. In fact, you are encouraged to bring as many delegates as you would like. Interested individuals are also able to register as independent delegates. You can register as either an independent or in a delegation if you register before the spots fill up. A typical delegation size ranges from 10-30 delegates.
7What is the dress code?
Delegates are expected to be dressed in formal African traditional attire or western business attire. Western business attire includes a suit jacket, slacks (or skirts for women), dress shirt (with tie for men) and dress shoes. Traditional attire from any African country is also permitted, provided the delegate is decently and corporately dressed. If a delegate’s attire is deemed inappropriate by our staff, the delegate will be asked to leave the session and return with appropriate attire. Clothes that expose excessively bare skin or are revealing are deemed inappropriate. Repeated offenses will factor negatively in the consideration for awards.
8Is there a Covid 19 policy?
All MOCOG hosted events will be vaccinated events. It is however known to us that the unavailability of vaccines to cover all individuals exist, especially in this part of our world. Unvaccinated individuals who have peculiar medical exemptions may present the same as proof. Should an event be unable to be held in-person for reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic, all registrations will be transferred to an online iteration—with appropriate costs being refunded so that the overall fee paid is identical to that of the delegate registration fee for a potential online event—or to an anticipated in-person at a rescheduled date. Delegations will be given the opportunity to choose between the two options, and should they choose the latter option, all delegates who may not be able to attend the rescheduled event due to whatever circumstances will be fully refunded. Please note that MASK WEARING will be strictly enforced.
